This type of board view lets me quickly visualize what’s coming up by just swiping across the page, and it also allows me to reschedule tasks by dragging and dropping them in different columns. In my case, I’ve chosen to set both my ‘Club MacStories’ list and ‘Dashboard’ smart list (pictured at the top of the story) to Board - Date this view lets me flip through columns for each day of the week, which is the kind of visual, glanceable separation between days I’ve always wanted to have in my task manager. This is my only complaint about this update I hope Kim will find a way to bring back iPadOS 14’s three-column layout for list view soon.īoard view builds upon GoodTask’s existing array of view settings: in any list or smart list, you can choose to make ‘Board’ the default view for the list, so that every time you open it, your preferred flavor of board view (including its sorting options) will be set by default. I can imagine that a three-column layout wouldn’t have worked well (if at all) with a Kanban view, but I don’t understand why the app’s standard list view had to lose the useful three-column layout too. You can long-press on tasks inside a column to show quick actions in a context menu as usual the only difference from previous versions of GoodTask is that the app is no longer employing a three-column layout to display the inspector for a selected task, which is now a popup window instead. By default, each column comes with a ‘+’ button to create a new task within that column (therefore matching its properties, whether it’s a date, tag, list, or priority). For instance, if a list is sorted by date and you enable board view, GoodTask will create columns for different days if you’re sorting tasks by tag, the app will create columns for each tag, and so forth. Once enabled, board view takes whatever sorting option is currently set for a list and creates matching columns to display its tasks. The same smart list in list view (left) and board view on iPhone. Because GoodTask’s view preferences sync between devices with iCloud, if you want to set specific lists to board view on some devices only, you’ll have to disable preferences sync manually in GoodTask’s settings. Personally, I prefer to use board view on my iPad Pro and Mac since the horizontal layout makes more sense for widescreen devices, but you can enable it on iPhone too. GoodTask’s new board view is exactly what I was hoping Kim would be able to ship in their powerful Reminders client, and it’s giving me the additional flexibility for visualizing tasks and due dates I’ve long sought in GoodTask.īoard view is available on all platforms, and it can be enabled in any list or smart list within GoodTask by pressing the list/board button in the lower left column of the task list page (the three-line icon next to the segmented control for sorting). ![]() For those reasons, as I detailed on AppStories, I believe that a board view is the kind of functionality that more task managers should implement in addition to standard list views.įortunately, GoodTask developer Hanbum Kim listened to my request (which was also followed by other helpful comments by AppStories listeners on Twitter) and brought board views to GoodTask 6.4, released today for iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. ![]() I used Todoist for a couple months to keep track of tasks related to my iOS and iPadOS 14 review last year, and I found its board view a terrific way to visualize different groups of tasks within a project Trello is also one of the services we use to manage Club MacStories, so the Kanban methodology resonates with me and I like the idea of dragging and dropping tasks across columns. Introduced last year, board view lets you visualize tasks in a Todoist project with a Kanban board reminiscent of Trello, and it comes with support for sections and multiple sorting options. In that episode of AppStories, I mentioned how, in my experiments with other task managers, I came across a feature I would have liked to see in GoodTask: Todoist’s board view. Essentially, if you like the convenience and system integrations of Reminders but find yourself wanting more flexibility from Apple’s Reminders app, you need to give GoodTask a try. We’ve mentioned GoodTask several times on both MacStories and AppStories before for those not familiar with it, GoodTask uses Reminders as its “database” for tasks, but it enhances the experience with power-user features such as smart lists, customizable quick actions for task templates, and a variety of view options that can be personalized and applied on a per-list basis. In our Workflows Revisited: Task Management episode of AppStories from December, I explained my decision to keep using GoodTask – the powerful third-party Reminders client – as my primary task manager.

Project-based assessment tasks are good examples that enable students to conduct exploration of ChatGPT and similar tools, but they ultimately demonstrate the learning and skill on their own. Using authentic assessment tasks that are aligned to a local context or problem, for example, would require students to foster a culture of exploration and curiosity. Educate students and staff about the strengths and weaknesses of AI-generated content. Awareness is the best line of defense. Here are some issues that universities might want to consider. The big question is: Should educators ban such developments or embrace them? ChatGPT and other AI tools are already being adopted in industry as a way to automate mundane tasks. As employers increasingly adopt advanced AI, the academic world will need to amend its teaching and assessment practices. Issues universities need to considerĬhatGPT and similar technologies will continue to shape the future of what we call the World of Work (WoW). To some extent, essays-and, perhaps even more controversially, doctoral theses-are already not well aligned to the needs of many employers. The skill sets are not easily or accurately tested individually in an examination hall in a three-hour period. “We recommend an approach where teaching and learning adapt to recognize the opportunities posed by new technologies.”īefore adopting that obvious quick fix, though, it is important to reflect on the reasons why a broad assessment strategy was adopted in the first place.Įngineering and computing students must tackle large, complex problems and adopt collaborative strategies. The immediate reaction from academia is likely to be to adopt traditional assessment strategies that comprise predominantly closed-book, exam-style assessments. And ChatGPT’s capabilities are certain to improve over time. Because ChatGPT can solve many mathematical problems and generate and debug code, however, the computing field cannot simply ignore the AI evolution. To meet the learning outcomes, STEM students must demonstrate skills such as programming. In the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, a far broader assessment strategy than essays is used. It could be argued that the open nature of ChatGPT has leveled the playing field between those who can and can’t afford to pay for the services. Although the anti-plagiarism tools have been successful, they use sophisticated pattern-matching techniques-which makes them ill-equipped to detect the language constructs resulting from advanced AI.Īnother way students get around writing original content is through essay mills, which provide writing services for a fee. Anti-plagiarism detection tools such as iThenticate and TurnItIn have deterred the use of such repositories. For many years, students have been able to copy text from essay banks. Unfortunately, this type of problem is not new. The AI tool offers the opportunity for well-written researched content without the need for a student to search for detailed sources. If students use ChatGPT to write an essay or report, the problem is the output generated provides limited, if any, representation about the quality of their learning. ![]() The role of an academic assessor has been to evaluate individual students’ submissions to gauge the breadth and depth of their understanding of the topic. Many types of assessments used to evaluate students require them to demonstrate they have understood new materials by investigating the content and collating their learning in the form of a written essay or report. Such content, therefore, likely can avoid detection by traditional plagiarism tools-which creates a concern for universities about how to assess students’ learning and skill development. The tool allows its users to quickly generate sophisticated textual content that is uniquely constructed. Tags provide even more play choices that have lasting consequences. I found that it is better to simply play and make decisions consistent with the RPG elements embodied by my chosen protagonist and let the chips fall where they may. Start with Origin characters, but for your second play, try an undead one. That’s because, in Divinity: Original Sin 2, and so much more than in its contemporaries, choice matters. It transcends this further by allowing a great deal of mix and match, not just within your character, but within your party. In truth, each class feels more like they might in an action/RPG, possessing powers like fire breathing, receiving healing for standing in pools of blood, granted bonuses for fighting solo, shield bouncing, backstabbing, blinding radiance, and the ability to speak with pets. Proteins were found to yield amino acids after enzymatic digestion or acid hydrolysis. The first use of the term "amino acid" in the English language dates from 1898, while the German term, Aminosäure, was used earlier. The unity of the chemical category was recognized by Wurtz in 1865, but he gave no particular name to it. The last of the 20 common amino acids to be discovered was threonine in 1935 by William Cumming Rose, who also determined the essential amino acids and established the minimum daily requirements of all amino acids for optimal growth. Glycine and leucine were discovered in 1820. Cystine was discovered in 1810, although its monomer, cysteine, remained undiscovered until 1884. In 1806, French chemists Louis-Nicolas Vauquelin and Pierre Jean Robiquet isolated a compound from asparagus that was subsequently named asparagine, the first amino acid to be discovered. ![]() The first few amino acids were discovered in the early 1800s. This convention is useful to avoid various nomenclatural problems but should not be taken to imply that these structures represent an appreciable fraction of the amino-acid molecules. The systematic names and formulas given refer to hypothetical forms in which amino groups are unprotonated and carboxyl groups are undissociated. The Commission justified this approach as follows: For example, the systematic name of alanine is 2-aminopropanoic acid, based on the formula CH 3−CH(NH 2)−COOH.
